Stations of The Cross Poster

Hello everyone, last week was holy week, so you would’ve had a nice long break from school. But that’s not what holy week is all about, it is about Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday.

I have created a poster about the 14 Stations of The Cross, the easter eggs represents each station and what happened.

I learnt about the sad and good things in Holy Week because Jesus was beaten up and died in the cross, but then on Sunday, he resurrected and everyone realised he was really The son of God.

Here is my poster:

Sorry for the quality, if you want a higher quality, here’s the link.

What did you do for Easter?

Dolores O’Riordan

For writing this term, we have been making biographies about famous people that have made an impact in the world. I decided to write about a musician and song writer that inspired me, from The Cranberries: Dolores O’Riordan.

She has taught others from her heart and lyrics, and inspired lots of woman to become musicians too.

Something interesting from Dolores that I didn’t know before I wrote and researched is that she was “The Top Female Artist of the Year” In Billboard’s 30th Alternative Song Anniversary.

This is my writing, I hope you learn more about Dolores O’Riordan.

What do you think is interesting about Dolores O’Riordan?

Instagram Post

Hi everybody, today I am sharing a fake Instagram post I made about Mana Gertrude.

It shows an image on Mana Gertrude caring and showing kindness to her children and others too, she teaches us to show peace and be humble to everybody.

A quote from Mana Gertrude is in the caption: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another”. I hope you can take some inspiration from that quote, reminding you to again: be humble, gentle, patient, and love everyone.

Here is the fake Instagram post.

How do you spread kindness to others?

I hope you learnt something from my blog, please comment.

How can we be champions of peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the CND symbol, a dove symbol, yin yang, and the V peace sign.

These symbols represent peace because for example the CND symbol originates as a symbol representing the threat of nuclear annihilation used in British anti-nuclear activism from 1958. And the heart is meaning love, and love is relating to peace, and the sun is also related to peace because it shows warmth.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because there is a sun for warmth and love, there is a heart outline showing love aswell, and a CND symbol inbetween for peace.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Martin Luther King Jr I thought this person was a champion of peace because he helped protect black people and fight for their rights.

I learnt peace is extraordinarily good because it bring the world together.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by listening to others including my friends and family.

Super Solar Science

In Science we have been learning about electricity. We did many types of experiments to help us learn about it. One of the experiments we did was called solar powered cars. We wanted the sun to power the car to move.

Materials needed :

  • A toy solar panel car
  • The sun

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that when I put it onto the floor, the sun will power it up and it’ll go really fast because of the sun and solar panels.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was correct because we went outside and we were close to the sun which made it work.

Conclusion:

Something I found interesting during this learning was how the sun is able to give electricity to the car.

Something I found challenging was managing to get the car to go, because when we were outside it went very slow/didn’t go, but when we put it up to the sun, the wheels went really fast. I learnt that the car needed to be in the sun for it top move.

Do you know other things that are powered by the sun?

Epic GEM Learning!

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that GEM is important in our daily lives, it’s good for our mental health.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

For the showcase evening I worked with Shyanne and Tianah.

We decided to create a colouring book because colouring can be silent and calming.

Here is my final creation:

I now know more about what mindfulness is and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I did the designing really well. I could have been better at communication, not fighting.

If I was to do this again, next time I would try and not make the drawings look as rushed.

What do you know about GEM?

Athletics Day

Hello everyone! On Tuesday, 25 October, we had athletics at Rawhiti Domain with year 1-8. I didn’t do well at the events, but I still had some fun.

We all got separated, depending on our year group and gender, I am a year 6 girl, so I went with the other year 6 girls.

I didn’t do well at the events, but I still had some fun. field events we did were, shot put, discus, high jump, & long jump. My favourite was discus because I liked the area, and I liked throwing it, my least favourite was high jump, I didn’t do it because I was putting the pole back on if the person failed.

We also did running events, we had to run, 60m, 80m & 1000m, I didn’t win any of them, but one of my friends did, it was the 60m race, but they didn’t make it the second round, I’m still happy for them though. And the 1000m meant we had to do 2.5 laps, I wasn’t second to last but I wasn’t around first place.

My goal for next year is to train harder, try harder, and be more confident.

What is your favourite event at athletics?

Melodic Poetry

Hi everyone, today I’m gonna be talking about my poetry. I’ve made 3 with one empty slide, I haven’t had the time to do that one. I’ve made a free verse poem, which you can write anything you want! Well, there was some rules about the free verse, First line must be be an “it is” statement. Poem must be at least nine lines long with at least three stanza’s. Poem must have at least one metaphor. Choose to have at least one example of personification or alliteration. Last line must be a question. those were the rules about the free verse poems. Next I did a haiku poem which is from Japan. on your first line you have 5 syllables and the next line has 7 syllables and then the last line has 5 syllables again. And I finally did a limerick poem, the rules of a limerick poem is, it has to have 5 sentences or lines, rhyming words, rhythm when read aloud, it follows a AABBA rhyme pattern, and lastly it has to be funny! I didn’t do the diamante but basically you write the opposites of a word and it makes a shape of a diamond. This is all I’m going to write so goodbye!

Awesome Orchestra Visit!

Hi everyone! So last Wednesday the CSO AKA the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, There were 10 people who each played different instruments: A violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, flute, oboe, trumpet, trombone and steel pan drums. They all came so the children who have never been to an orchestra before, can experience how it feels like to see one.

The instrument that I liked the most was the steel pan drums because when I heard them they sounded like music you would hear in a tropical song.

The thing that surprised me the most was how to make noise with the trumpet because when you want to play it you need to make a fart noise instead of blowing.

Something that I found interesting was how the harp strings are different colours because I’ve seen people playing and I’ve never seen a different coloured string, they were white, but for the lady who played the harp for the orchestra had different colours on her strings, there was red, white and green.

What is your favourite instrument?

Swimming Feedback

We have just finished two weeks of swimming lessons at QEII.

In my last blog post I wanted to use this week to improve on changing faster in the changing rooms.

I have been successful in swimming because I learnt what to do if I need help or how to help others in the ocean. I only got only 2 days of swimming lessons, I still had fun doing the lessons.

This week, we did a lot of water safety skills. Something that I have learnt is that there are red plastic scoops. I don’t remember the name of the actual object. And this is important because when you have a sinking, damaged boat and the water gets in the boat, it will sink faster so you then pick up the water in the boat with the scoops.

The thing that I enjoyed the most this week was when we wore the life jackets because we got to go on the little rescue boat and fall backwards, even though I swallowed a bit of the water while falling.

Something that I want to learn next time I have swimming lessons at school is how to hold my breath for a longer time because I can’t go under water for even a minute.
